The seeds of the Bearcamp Valley Garden Club were planted 75 years ago, and the roots of the organization have been growing strong since then as members have contributed countless hours as volunteers dedicated to community beautification and the wise use of natural resources. This summer, the Garden Club is offering an opportunity for guests to see some of the beauty that’s been blossoming in little pockets around the Lakes Region, with a tour of some unique gardens.
The Bearcamp Valley Garden Club 2013 Hidden Gardens Tour takes place on Saturday June 29th from 11 am – 4 pm (rain date July 1). Visitors will walk through a hidden garden on Lake Winnipesauke and two secret gardens on Squam Lake. One of the locations will offer both a garden and home tour. Visitors to the Lakes Region of NH now have a new way to enjoy touring the area, as several local wineries have teamed up to create a map of the newly organized Lakes Region Wine Trail, which includes stops at all of the wineries surrounding Lake Winnipesaukee.
“This trail was created as a partnership between the Lakes Region Wineries as a way to help educate our communities about the wineries that are located around the lakes,” says Bob Manley of Hermit Woods Winery. “This map was born out of the success of our collaboration around our Barrel Tasting Weekend that happened last fall and the map we created for that event.” Read the rest of this entry »

Now that flowers are blooming, the air is warm, and folks are planting their gardens, it seems that spring has finally settled in! In honor of the season, the New Hampshire Farm Museum will be holding a Spring Farm Day celebration, where visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty and simplicity of life on the farm and celebrate spring the old-fashioned way!
This Saturday, May 18th, from 10am – 4pm, the museum will open its garden gates for its annual Spring Farm Day Market, Plant Sale & Farm Day Activities. The Spring Market, which is open to the public free of charge from 10am – 2pm, will feature homemade crafts, plants, baked goods, and an organic seedling sale. Spring Farm Day events include historic farmhouse tours, horse-drawn wagon rides, gardening activities, farm tours, wool spinning, and demonstrations of traditional crafts. Kids can make a paper pot and plant a seed to take home, as well as help plant the museum’s Children’s Garden. For treasure hunters of all kinds, Meredith will be the place to be next Saturday. The whole village is coming together to hold their Annual Community Yard Sale, and antique enthusiasts, collectors, and bargain hunters from all over New England will be setting their destinations for this little lakeside village.
Sponsored by the Meredith Area Chamber of Commerce, the 18th Annual Community Yard Sale will take place on Saturday, May 18th from 9 am – 3 pm at over fifty locations in the Meredith area. Concert season is shaping up to be a great one in the Lakes Region, with some really big names lined up to play at two of the premier stages in NH. The Flying Monkey and Meadowbrook have booked a lot of international stars this year, and they are adding new acts almost everyday—it won’t be long before their summer concert schedules are full!
The Flying Monkey Movie House & Performance Center in Plymouth has been hosting fabulous performing artists year-round since 2010, and it seems the shows keep getting better and better! “The Monkey” features several movie series, nationally and internationally recognized bands and solo artists, well-known comedy acts, and community theater productions. Just in May, Rockapella, Phil Vassar, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Delbert McClinton, among others, will grace the stage at the Monkey. Seasoned dance instructor Juli Pruden will be at Sacred Waters Yoga at Mill Falls on Saturday, April 13th to lead a wedding prep dance class for those who wish to learn some new moves or brush up on their dance skills in anticipation of this year’s wedding season, which is right around the corner!
Taking place from 5 – 6:30 p.m. at the Sacred Waters Yoga Studio, the Wedding Prep Dance Crash Course is designed for those getting ready for that special day, be they the engaged couple, parents of the bride or groom, members of the wedding party, or guests who will be attending receptions and celebrations this coming wedding season. Add some classical music to your weekend plans! The Lakes Region Symphony Orchestra (LRSO) will be holding its first concert of the year this Saturday at the Inter-Lakes Community Auditorium in Meredith, featuring Margaret Hopkins and Bozena O’Brien, both on violin.
“Duetto Concertante,” will take place Saturday, March 23rd at 7:30 pm at the Inter-Lakes Community Auditorium, located at Inter-Lakes High School in Meredith, NH. The LRSO, along with sisters Margaret Hopkins and Bozena O’Brien, will be performing W. A. Mozart’s Concerto for Two Violins and Orchestra. Although we had a mild winter, temperature-wise, and the tap timing is a little off this year, the sap is rising in maple trees across New Hampshire. Maple sugar producers are now tapping these rich sources in preparation for the big harvest that marks the start of spring!
