Three-time Juno Award-winner David Francey Returns to Meredith
Posted on March 9th, 2012 2 commentsTime flies when you’re having fun! It’s been over a year since Giuseppe’s Pizzeria & Ristoranté opened “The Grotto,” a beautiful and cozy room in the original foundation of the old linen mill at Mill Falls, with plenty of space for private parties, wine dinners, and intimate live concerts. In fact, The Grotto’s Dinner Concert Series has been well received by audiences, who have been filling the room since last March to enjoy distinctive performances by respected national touring artists.
Canadian singer-songwriter David Francey was the first in the Dinner Concert Series lineup, and he will be returning for his second performance at The Grotto this coming Wednesday, March 14th. “We were so fortunate to have him debut our new dinner concert series last March, when he performed to a sold-out audience,” says Julie Gnerre-Bourgeois, owner of Giuseppe’s. “His return visit is greatly anticipated.”
David recently received a Juno nomination for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year: Solo for his 2011 release, Late Edition. The Juno award is the Canadian equivalent of the American Grammy, and this is David’s fifth Juno nomination. Since releasing his first album 13 years ago, he’s won three of the trophies. David has also been nominated for two 2011 Canadian Folk Music Awards—for solo artist of the year and English songwriter of the year.
According to David Francey’s official website, he was a longtime construction worker who made his folk singing debut at age 45. Although he didn’t even play an instrument at the time—for years he had been writing poetry and setting it to music in his head while he worked—David quickly rose to the top of the global roots scene. Still, he kept his construction job until after winning his first Juno in 2001.
Julie says David enjoyed performing at The Grotto last year and is looking forward to being in Meredith again. “He especially appreciates the fine hotel accommodations and hospitality.”
If you haven’t had the chance to check out the Dinner Concert Series at The Grotto yet, here is your opportunity to see some amazing musical talent in a unique and intimate setting. David Francey will be performing with special guest and accompanist Craig Werth this Wednesday, March 14th. Pre-show dinner reservations begin at 6:30, and the show starts at 8:00. Tickets are $20.00 and may be purchased in advance or at the door. For more information, call Giuseppe’s at 603-279-3313.
