Labor Day Weekend Events in the Lakes Region
Posted on August 31st, 2012 No commentsRelaxing in the Lakes Region of NH this holiday weekend? Besides the abundance of summertime activities that are still going strong, there are some fun special events happening to celebrate and cap off the season as we shift into fall…
Music in the Mill Falls Marketplace – Stroll through the shops of the Mill Falls Marketplace or just relax outdoors while enjoying a summer’s night serenade. The Craig Jaster Jazz Trio plays from 5:30 to 8:30 pm in the courtyard of this beautiful and historic market that was once an old linen mill. The Marketplace played a major part in revitalizing the village of Meredith, which is now a destination on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee.
Labor Day Weekend Craft Fair at the Bay – The 23rd Annual Labor Day Weekend “Craft Fair at the Bay” will be held at the Alton Bay Community House and along the waterfront of Lake Winnipesaukee in Alton this weekend. Over 100 Juried craftspeople from all over New England will display and sell their works, which include pottery, fine jewelry, primitive and folk art, photography, wood carvings, metal sculpture, blown glass, and so much more. Admission and parking are free, and Alton Bay is also accessible by boat!
Labor Day Lobsterfest aboard the M/S Mount Washington – Some would say a New England summer is not complete without a lobster dinner. If you haven’t had yours yet, consider going all out on Saturday, September 1st for the experience of dining on Lake Winnipesaukee at night aboard the M/S Mount Washington. Tickets for this romantic cruise include dancing to live music along with your lobster (or BBQ chicken) dinner. The remnants of the blue moon will be shining over the lake—where will you be?
Concerts at the Meadowbrook US Cellular Pavilion – Meadowbrook has a great lineup for Labor Day Weekend! Stone Temple Pilots will be performing on Friday, August 31st, Keith Urban will play on Sunday, September 2nd, and the Rise Above Fest will rock the house on Monday, September 3rd. Many regional rock bands have competed to win a slot at the Rise Above Fest, and a dozen of the best have made the cut for this special Labor Day Event that will benefit NAMI NH. Send the summer out with a blast!
Garden Series – Versatile Hydrangeas and their Care – Looking for something a little quieter for the weekend? Tarbin Gardens in Franklin, NH is offering educational guided tours with an emphasis on versatile hydrangeas and their care. Tours start at 11am, Friday – Monday this weekend, and last approximately one hour. You are welcome to stay for the rest of the day to enjoy the gardens—bring a picnic lunch or treat yourself to an authentic English Cream Tea served in the Rose Garden Patio, which is open 1pm – 5pm. The gardens are open from 10am – 6pm daily. Soak up the beauty and tranquility!
Friends of the Meredith Library Book-It – Get the whole family moving on Saturday, September 1st! Book-It is a 5K family fun road race, and Inchworm is a one-mile race for children and parents. Entrants are encouraged to dress as their favorite literary character and run in one of these fun races. Prizes will be awarded for winner as well as best costume. Each race will start from the Meredith Community Park. For more information, contact Beverly Heyduk at 603-279-1206 or bheyduk@metrocast.net.
