  • 3rd Annual Meredith Village Art Walk to Benefit NH Humane Society

Posted on December 7th, 2012 admin No comments

As winter sets in all around New England, we begin to turn our thoughts toward pursuing creative indoor endeavors, gathering with loved ones, and helping those less fortunate than ourselves. December is a time of great giving, within our families as well as our communities. In this spirit of grace, the art galleries of Meredith are once again opening their doors and their hearts for a special night of beautiful art, music, delicious food, and generous fundraising for their annual “Food for the Soul” Art Walk.

Next Thursday evening, December 13th, six galleries in Meredith will participate in the third annual Meredith Village Art Walk, themed “Food for the Soul,” to benefit the New Hampshire Humane Society, the largest area animal welfare agency. Last year’s Art Walk brought in many donations to the Meredith Emergency Food Pantry, and the event’s organizers are hoping their visitors are just as generous this year to help our animal friends. The event promises to be bigger and better than last year with the addition of several fine artisans and craftsmen, horse-drawn wagon rides, and live music.

From 4:00 – 7:00 on Thursday evening, visitors can stroll through candlelit storefronts in quaint Meredith Village and view beautiful local and international works of art while chatting with local artists. Gallery-goers can also catch a ride on a horse-drawn wagon, which will loop around the village several times and make stops at all the participating galleries and restaurants, including the lakes gallery at chi-lin, Gallery 51, VynnArt, The League of NH Craftsmen, Oglethorpe Fine Arts & Crafts, and The Arts Collaborative hosted by Mame’s Restaurant. The wagon, provided by The Inns & Spa at Mill Falls, will be pulled by horses from Heritage Farm and will have Santa on board all evening.

At each location, guests will enjoy music, refreshments, and unique discounts, as well as a special raffle that will provide donations for the Humane Society. Raffle tickets will be on sale for 5.00 each at all of the participating galleries and prizes include several original works of art, unique craft items, and donations from local businesses. Visitors who bring in an item from the NH Humane Society “Wish List” will receive a free raffle ticket!

VynnArt will be featuring affordable art for the holidays. This special exhibit features works of art by several of their artists priced below $100. Ogelthorpe Fine Arts & Crafts will stay open late for the event, and as always, will have a beautiful assortment of fine arts and crafts made in the USA.

Gallery 51 will offer special pricing on all original works of art by Christine Hodecker-George and 10% of the sales that evening will be donated to the NH Humane Society. Christine will be on hand to talk about her work and discuss the classes that are offered at Gallery 51 throughout the year.

The League of NH Craftsmen has joined the Art Walk this season with a full array of handmade arts and crafts by juried NH craftsmen. Check out their schedule of special demonstrations for December, too!

The lakes gallery at chi-lin will be hosting the opening of Henrieke Strecker’s new work in the lower gallery. Guests can meet the artist and enjoy a glass of wine or hot Passion Flower Tulsi tea. The gallery will also feature handmade Afghani beaded wool and pashmina scarves, which are the recent efforts of Flying Scarfs, a non-profit formed by young US Air Force Officers to help support Afghani war widows. These scarves will be part of the evening’s raffle. Satori tea garden teas make wonderful “warming” holiday gifts, with a wide choice of unique Asian green, oolong, and chakra teas as well as robust British Legacy teas. A piece from the Pearls Near Jade pearl jewelry collection or a “Journey stone” granite vase are also great gift ideas.

Mame’s restaurant will be hosting the Arts Collaborative Artisan’s Gallery and Teaching studio. David Little and Steven Hayden will be on hand to show some of their handcrafted wrought iron and wood furniture, as well as some examples of their individual lamps, sculptures, and candlesticks. Also on display will be the work of other New Hampshire artists represented by The Arts Collaborative, such as Brenda and Allen Caswell’s Enamelware, the blown glass of Alex Kalish and Phillip Jacobs, and Kim Thomas’s beautiful hand-crocheted, one-of-a-kind hats. Teaching artists Heidi Little and Cynthia Robinson will also be available to highlight the offerings at the Arts Collaborative Teaching Studio. Current classes and workshops include “First Fridays” Creative Women’s Gathering on December 7th, and the Heartfelt Gift and Ornament making workshop on December 8th.

During the Art Walk, visitors can enjoy specials and treats from Taylor’s Country Style Restaurant and Mame’s Restaurant, and gallery-goers will be given a map that includes all of the participating locations. Lakes Region Singers, a community chorale, will provide beautiful live music at each location throughout the evening.

The artists and art dealers of Meredith urge everyone to come out and support the Art Walk and its generous cause! For further information, please visit any of the participating galleries or contact Vyn Hale at 279-0557 or Christine Hodecker-George at 279-3123.
