NH Winter Farmers’ Markets—a Great Local Resource!
Posted on January 4th, 2013 No comments
Remember the long days, warm sun, and bountiful farmers’ markets and produce stands of summer? Now that we are deep into winter, those days seem a long way off. But the good news is that farmers’ markets still abound—they’ve just moved indoors for the season. Even during the coldest of cold spells, folks in New Hampshire can get fresh veggies and other goodies directly from local farms! Here in the Lakes Region, there are a couple of great markets to choose from:
Laconia Indoor Winter Market: Now in its third season, the Laconia Indoor Market starts up when the Laconia Main St. Outdoor Marketplace wraps up in late September, with many of the same vendors participating during the winter months. Here you can find fresh vegetables, flowers & plants, local dairy products, maple syrup, baked goods, and crafts. The Laconia Indoor Market is located at Laconia Skate Escape, and is open every Thursday, October through May, from 3 – 6 pm, except for school vacation weeks and holidays. For more information, call 603-455-7515, or visit the market’s website here.
Tilton Winter Farmers’ Market: The Tilton Winter Farmers’ Market opens this weekend for its second year, featuring more than 40 vendors. This year’s market will offer even more vegetables, with many organic options, plus locally-raised meats, eggs, and dairy products, locally-produced homemade breads, pastries, soups, gourmet popcorn, cider, honey, granola, maple syrup, jams, jellies, coffee, teas, wine, beer, body-care products, herbal products, dog treats, and composting worms. The market also features gluten-free and vegan options, as well as face painting for the kids and live music! The Tilton Winter Farmers’ Market is located at 67 East Main Street, and is open Saturdays and Sundays, January through March, 10 am – 2 pm both days. For more information, call 603-496-1718, or visit the Tilton Winter Farmers’ Market website.
There are many more winter farmers’ markets throughout the Granite State, and they are listed here at the VisitNH website. New Hampshire residents and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of these wonderful resources, and support our local farmers!
