Celebrate Winter in the Lakes Region this Weekend
Posted on January 18th, 2013 No commentsWith snow finally covering the terrain and ice thickening on the lakes, it definitely feels like winter New Hampshire! And with special events happening throughout the Lakes Region, this weekend is the perfect time to get out and celebrate the beauty of the season…
Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center in Laconia has a couple of fun outdoor events this Saturday, January 19th. The Snowshoe Fitness Walk, which takes place from 10 – 11 am, takes hikers on a trail that winds through the majestic farm forest with stunning winter scenery. Snowshoes are available for those who don’t have their own. Prescott Farm will also be open in the afternoon for a free Family Sledding Party from 12:30 – 3:00. Bring your own sled and Prescott Farm will provide the snow-covered hill and a toasty campfire! Folks are welcome to bring a lunch to enjoy in the farm’s “green” building, where hot cocoa, s’mores, and other light snacks will be available to purchase.
Also on Saturday, the Squam Lakes Association will host their annual Winterfest at the Resource Center on Piper Cove in Holderness. This winter celebration and chili contest is a family-friendly event that focuses on outdoor winter fun. The afternoon festival will feature ice-skating, sledding, winter mini-golf, and other fun activities. Local dog sled team Valley Snow Dogz will be on hand offering dog sled rides on Squam Lake!
Here in Meredith, the ice on Lake Winnipesaukee is ready for skating, and a rink has been cleared on Meredith Bay in front of the Inn at Bay Point. Bring the family and enjoy some good old-fashioned winter fun! On Saturday, January 19th, The Inns & Spa at Mill Falls are offering free Horse & Wagon rides from 5:45 – 8:00 pm. Jump on at any of the four Inns and snuggle in for a jaunt around Meredith Village. Stop by Bay Point anytime between 6:00 and 7:30 pm to warm up around the campfire on the ice and enjoy some toasted marshmallows. All the shops at the Mill Falls Marketplace are open until 8:00 pm, too! On Sunday, Lakehouse Grille at Church Landing is offering a Jazz Brunch from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, featuring renowned local jazz musicians Don Williams & Dave Tonkin.
Don’t miss all the fun—escape to the Lakes Region and savor a quintessential New England winter weekend!
