Have one conversation with the Cascade Spa Director and you’ll know just how special this place is. Martha Zyla has been at helm of this unique spa since in opened in 2005, and she just can’t contain her excitement and enthusiasm for all the wonderful things they offer to guests of the Inns and Spa at Mill Falls, as well as the people of Meredith, NH.Located in tranquil Church Landing on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee, Cascade Spa sets an example of respect for nature and whole-person wellness for its guests. Martha has made a distinct effort to provide environmentally friendly products and services in an eco-conscious setting that honors the interconnectedness of true well-being. All of their highlighted product lines are all-natural, vegan, and exclusive to Cascade Spa in the Lakes Region.
Aromafloria is a natural, eco-friendly line, which is 100% wind powered and Green-E certified. “I love Aromafloria, they’re just so conscious,” says Martha. “With three different organic certifications, they are true to their beliefs.” Aromafloria is used in all of the spa’s manicure and pedicure services, and in the Mixology program for body treatments. “If you book a body treatment under the Mixology program, we would use their all-natural body butter and scrub, and to that you would be able to select a nutriment and an essential oil. For example, you could select a raspberry essential oil and a honey nutriment or an aloe nutriment. We customize whatever product we’re going to use in that particular body treatment for you. That’s been extremely exiting for our guests.”
Martha is also extremely proud of Zents, a therapeutic line of body products and customizable essential massage oils. “Zents began more than a decade ago when the cofounder had a car accident, which left him in chronic pain, and he also had a brain injury that was a direct result of the accident. He went in and out of rehab for such a long time, and unfortunately, they told him that he would never fully recover. But he wouldn’t take that for an answer, so he went to India and explored a completely different world of healing with herbs, yoga, meditation, and several massages a day. A year later, he had completely recovered. It inspired him to start his own company.” Martha says Zents is “absolutely incredible,” and she utilizes their products in the locker room for a beautiful start to the guests’ experience.
For weddings and special events, as well as everyday sparkle, Cascade Spa offers Christopher Drummond Beauty – a makeup line that uses organic and all-natural ingredients. Founded by celebrity makeup artist Christopher Drummond, this light, vegan cosmetic line is “Beyond Mineral Makeup.” As part of the Inns’ “Back to Spa Week” special events, Christopher Drummond himself will be at Cascade Spa on Tuesday, September 21st to provide complimentary personal consultations!
G.M. Collin, the spa’s product of choice for facials, is “truly dedicated to protecting the environment,” says Martha. “To my knowledge, they are one of the very first companies to embrace a green approach to aesthetics. They use recycled packaging, and everything’s biodegradable. G.M. Collin has won awards 25 times from both consumer and professional magazines because of their conscious commitment to the environment, so we’re very, very proud of the fact that we are utilizing them for all of our skin care treatments and our facials. It’s a very clinical line, and all of their products are derived from natural plants and marine extracts.” Continues Martha, “I have a guest actually who engaged in our first series of G.M. Collin Clinicals and everywhere she goes, people ask her, ‘Have you had surgery?’ It’s just our wonderful product line that is not invasive, yet gives the same results.”
“We do take a great deal of pride, not only in our products, but in our services as well. This year we’ve really stepped up our services,” says Martha. “I thought, ‘What can we do to let our guests know that our commitment is really to their complete well-being?’ So this year I brought in on our massage menu the Cascading Raindrop Technique Therapy – simply a sequence of anointing the lower spine with a series of ten essential oils and laying your hands on the oils to relax the guest by infusing the oils into the spine. A very therapeutic massage, not the typical massage that one would expect, it’s incredibly different, but it has wonderful results to improve the overall body functions.”
Another new massage technique is the Cupping massage. “Cupping is a very ancient technique with an inverted rubber cup, which creates a vacuum, stimulating circulation and allowing the blood to come closer to the surface to detoxify particular areas. It can be used for poor circulation, insomnia, asthma, chronic pain, arthritis, High Blood Pressure, Low Blood Pressure; in an advanced program it can help spider veins, reduce cellulite, lymphatic drainage – it has so many benefits! This is a very exciting new service!”
“Keeping in our green vein, we also now offer a bamboo massage. We all know how sustainable bamboo is, so it’s very exciting for me to incorporate this into our services, as well. A bamboo massage is another option for deep tissue massage. It increases circulation; it can be a little more effective with pressure, because the provider utilizes the bamboo stick, which is a little harder and stronger than hands. It really is great for someone who wants deep tissue work. Of course, we can do a light bamboo massage, too. The bamboo sticks are warmed, it’s a beautiful service, a little more intriguing than a regular deep tissue, and provides relief for tired, aching muscles.”
“I’m very, very proud of what we have. Our products are wonderful, our services are really tremendous… I would be remiss in not saying that… you can have all the finest of products and the finest of services, but if you don’t have quality staff, the picture isn’t complete,” says Martha. “I’m very careful when I bring someone on board that they understand the significance—that it is very important to us that we only utilize products that are environmentally conscious and that we too educate ourselves. We have lots of training programs.”
Martha sums it up beautifully by saying, “We take pride in the fact that we’re a spa that does base its decisions on the overall wellness of the guest, starting from what we use in the locker room and carrying it right through to our services, and certainly following that cue with whatever they take home with them. I feel that our overall wellness consciousness is what really sets us apart.”
