Step into this charming boutique at the Mill Falls Marketplace and you know you’re in a different kind of store.  The setting is at once fun and relaxed, with beautiful clothing and accessories for women of all ages.  From comfortable travel wear to one-of-a-kind pendants, Adornments offers world-class clothing and accessories that are a must-see for anyone visiting Meredith, NH.

“Everywhere you look there is something to delight you,” says Lori Losada, General Manager of Adornments, Inc.  “We hear a lot of women say, when they bring their friends in, ‘You’re going to love this store.’  It makes us feel very good.”

Indeed, what’s not to love?  Adornments carries items from the United States and around the world that are hard to find anywhere else.  Gloria Moore and Suzette Matthey-Wilson, a mother-daughter team with an elegant sense of style, own and operate this local boutique.  Gloria, who has lived overseas and done much world traveling, wanted to bring a bit of that experience into a retail setting, so founded Adornments about 20 years ago.  Since then, visitors to the Marketplace have found a diverse collection of products to enjoy.

Adornments carries artistic and unusual handcrafted sterling silver, semi-precious stone, and designer jewelry, as well as playful costume jewelry of all types.  Also on hand are leather purses in a variety of colors, organizer bags, and other distinctive accessories.  The butterfly pendants are a unique and stunning item with a nice story behind them.  Butterflies live a short life – about 2 – 3 weeks – and then die in the rainforests of South and Central America.   They are collected in a rainforest-sustainable project that puts money back into these struggling areas, and then set in teardrop-shaped or wing-shaped sterling silver settings.  Sometimes the wings of several types of butterflies are combined into a collage.  The result is a colorful, iridescent pendant that changes with the light.  “It’s a neat way to have part of nature with you,” says Lori, “and no butterflies are harmed.”

Lori is also proud of the Fair Trade Kazuri Beads they sell, which are handmade by a women’s cooperative in Kenya.  “Kazuri means ‘small and beautiful’ in Swahili,” she says. “Those are very special—each bead is hand-crafted and hand-painted by this women’s cooperative.  When we started carrying Kazuri many years ago they had maybe 10 women, and now this Kazuri cooperative has grown and is supporting over 300 women in Kenya.  This is how they make their livelihood.”

AdornmentsOn the clothing side of the store is a “casual, kind of fun look,” says Lori.  “We have a wide selection of colorful cottons, linens, and interesting fabrics that change with every season.  Among them you will find our distinctive “Art-to-Wear” jackets.  We offer dupioni silk shirts in a variety of colors to match.  We also carry flattering Not Your Daughters Jeans, which are designed and made in the US of a special stretch denim fabric.  For the avid traveler, whether you’re off to New York on a business trip or vacationing in the islands, Adornments offers a wide selection of comfortable travel wear and packable hats.”

“There’s such a wide variety of things,” continues Lori.  “We also carry clip earrings, which are kind of hard for ladies to find.  In addition to Mam’s lightweight clip-ons from Texas, one of the other lines we carry is John Michael Richardson—they’re made in Rhode Island and are based on a Thailand motif.”

“We’re dedicated to providing a unique and special customer experience for everyone who comes in our store.” says Lori.  Adornments’ Store Manager Nancy Spears and her staff are renowned for their product knowledge, attention to detail and expert service.  That service includes complimentary gift-wrapping, layaway, gift certificates, and shipping to anywhere in the United States.

“We try to please our customers with something unique and different, something they won’t find everywhere else,” adds Lori.  “We hope they find something very special in our store, something that perhaps they didn’t know they needed but just can’t resist—something that they would like to have for themselves and that they would feel wonderful giving as a gift as well.”

    • As an avid fall/winter New Hampshirite who loves to shop at Adornments, I must aclaim that this is my absolute favorite shop for hard to find elegant Parkhurst Outdoor Edition pieces. The staff remembers me and knows my exquisite taste. They alert me when my choices are on arrival so I can make my yearly late autumn, early winter trek to the shop. When there, I always peruse the shop for other selections that are new, rare, yet attractive for the discerning woman.

This is a must-visit shop for fashion-conscious women.
