  • Family Celebrates 25 Years of Reunions at The Inns

Posted on December 30th, 2011 admin No comments

    The Hinchey/Smith/Burbine family, 2011

On the second weekend of every December, this lakeside village becomes home to an extended family that has been gathering in Meredith for nearly 30 years and began staying at The Inn at Mill Falls the very first year the doors opened. Since then, the extended Hinchey/Smith/Burbine family has continued to meet at the Inns for their annual Christmas get-together, marking 25 years this December. They say they wouldn’t think of doing it any other way.

When Laura Hinchey moved to Meredith from Rhode Island in the early 1980s, she became the catalyst for the family’s regular treks to the New Hampshire Lakes Region.  In the beginning, the group was small enough to stay at Laura’s home, but every year, the party got “bigger and bigger and bigger,” so when the first Mill Falls Inn opened in 1985, they booked some rooms there.

Most of the sisters, cousins, uncles, grandparents, nieces, and grandchildren travel from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Laura’s home state of Rhode Island, and the group now varies in size from about 45 to about 55 family members each year. Of course, some years there are new babies, and sometimes others can’t make it. “My grandmother came for years and years,” says Laura. “We lost her two years ago at the age of 102, but she did make it for her 100th birthday. We have quite an age spread as well.  This year, the youngest one here was my great niece, her name is Sophie, and she’s just 2 months, and the oldest was my mother, who celebrated her 75th birthday that weekend.”

Back in the mid-1980s, The Inn at Mill Falls opened its doors and began its journey to help transform the sleepy town of Meredith from a run-down mill town into a revitalized and successful resort village, all while maintaining the charm and character of this old New England lakeside destination.  To celebrate this remarkable achievement, the Inns and Spa at Mill Falls is thanking its friends and guests, who helped make it all possible, by giving away four fabulous 25th anniversary packages over the course of this year.

Each Great Anniversary Giveaway package will include a two-night stay at the Inn with breakfast each morning at the Waterfall Café.  Also included in the package will be over $175 worth of gift cards for the shops and restaurants at the Mill Falls Marketplace.  The first drawing is taking place in March, so if you haven’t entered yet, now is the time!

  • Celebration of the Marketplace’s 25th Anniversary, Big Success!

Posted on August 23rd, 2009 admin No comments

On Friday, August 14, I had the good fortune of attending The Inns & Spa at Mill Falls celebration of the 25th marketplace25-001anniversary of its Marketplace.   It turned out to have everything they promised:  live music, face painting, balloon artist, free massages, and lots of great food provided by The Common Man, Giuseppe’s Pizzeria & Ristorante, and Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream.  For everyone’s enjoyment, there were also horse and buggy rides touring the quaint little town of Meredith, provided by the folks at Heritage Farm in Sanbornton.

We were blessed with nearly perfect weather; it was sunny and warm, with a gentle breeze to keep us cool when we weren’t in the shade.  The Buskers played for three hours to large crowds of folks taking part in the celebration or just passing through.  From what I could see, everyone had a very nice time.  I know I did!
