NH Farm Museum Celebrates the Season with Spring Farm Day

Now that flowers are blooming, the air is warm, and folks are planting their gardens, it seems that spring has finally settled in! In honor of the season, the New Hampshire Farm Museum will be holding a Spring Farm Day celebration, where visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty and simplicity of life on the farm and celebrate spring the old-fashioned way!This Saturday, May 18th, from 10am – 4pm, the museum will open its garden gates for its annual Spring Farm Day Market, Plant Sale & Farm Day Activities. The Spring Market, which is open to the public free of charge from 10am – 2pm, will feature homemade crafts, plants, baked goods, and an organic seedling sale. Spring Farm Day events include historic farmhouse tours, horse-drawn wagon rides, gardening activities, farm tours, wool spinning, and demonstrations of traditional crafts. Kids can make a paper pot and plant a seed to take home, as well as help plant the museum’s Children’s Garden. Lakes Region Symphony Orchestra Performs in Meredith this Weekend

Add some classical music to your weekend plans! The Lakes Region Symphony Orchestra (LRSO) will be holding its first concert of the year this Saturday at the Inter-Lakes Community Auditorium in Meredith, featuring Margaret Hopkins and Bozena O’Brien, both on violin.“Duetto Concertante,” will take place Saturday, March 23rd at 7:30 pm at the Inter-Lakes Community Auditorium, located at Inter-Lakes High School in Meredith, NH. The LRSO, along with sisters Margaret Hopkins and Bozena O’Brien, will be performing W. A. Mozart’s Concerto for Two Violins and Orchestra. Also on the program are “Fatinitza Overture, Part 2” by Franz Von Suppé and Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 2 in C minor, (“Little Russian”). Read the rest of this entry »

Squam Lakes Natural Science Center in Holderness is offering several programs for kids and adults. Their Wild Winter Walks lead explorers ages 6 and up on a trek that uncovers some answers about what happens to animals during winter. A staff naturalist guides your walk and discusses how native animals are well adapted for winter in New Hampshire. It’s Time for Altrusa Club’s Annual Festival of Trees!

To open the Lakes Region’s holiday season, the Altrusa Club of Meredith will be hosting their 17th Annual Festival of Trees this weekend. This spectacular festival will be held at the Waukewan Golf Club in Center Harbor, NH, and will highlight beautifully decorated Christmas trees, fine products made by local artisans, traditional cookies and cider, and a special children’s event, all while benefitting local charities and community projects!The Festival kicks off on Thursday evening, November 29th, with the Silent & Live Auction and Gala from 5:30 – 8:00pm. The night will be filled with music, hors d’oeuvres, delicious desserts, and a cash wine and beer bar. Guests will enjoy the picturesque New England barn setting, featuring a huge rustic fireplace, while bidding on many great items contributed by area businesses. New this year, a live auction will feature three specialty items: a 40” Samsung HDTV Flat Screen TV, two MS/Mount Washington dinner cruise tickets paired with an overnight stay at The Inns & Spa at Mill Falls, and two Ski NH one-day unrestricted ski passes to both Gunstock and Ragged Mountain, along with gift certificates to Patrick’s Pub and Fratello’s Ristoranté Italiano or The Homestead Restaurant. As in years past, the Lakes Region’s favorite well-known radio personality, Pat Kelly, will take on the role of Master of Ceremonies for the event. NH’s Common Man Restaurants Help with Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

In keeping with a long tradition of community service, The Common Man Family of Restaurants has once again reached out to assist those in need—by offering direct help as well as raising funds through the generosity of its patrons—this time in the efforts to aid people and communities devastated by Hurricane Sandy last week.Thousands are still without power in New York and New Jersey, and the recovery has been complicated by this week’s Nor’easter. However, as the relief effort continues, the folks at the Common Man have donated food to the Jersey Shore and are working hard to raise funds for the American Red Cross NH Chapter. Meredith “Trick or Eat” Happening This Sunday!

Now here’s a twist on trick-or treating that has plenty of treats for grown-ups (and kids too)—live music, a historical walking tour, and samples of specialties from local restaurants, all in one event! It’s the very first Meredith Trick or Eat, the signature “fun”raiser to benefit some great community organizations in the Lakes Region.Meredith Trick or Eat will take place this Sunday, October 28th from 2 – 5 pm in beautiful Meredith Village. The event is a collaboration between Better Together, the Meredith Pathway Committee, the Greater Meredith Program, and several local businesses. Members of the Meredith Village Pathways Committee will be dressed in period attire as they lead groups on a walking tour of Meredith and relate historical tidbits about the village at various stops along the way. Stretch Your Wings at the Festival of Flight!

Looking for a great family activity in the Lakes Region this weekend? Squam Lakes Natural Science Center has just the ticket—the Festival of Flight, featuring a hawk watch, crafts for children, live animal presentations, and a tethered balloon ride!On Saturday, September 8th from 9:30 – 6:30, Squam Lakes Natural Science Center in Holderness, NH will be hosting a day of celebrating the wonders of flight and migration sponsored by Community Guaranty Savings Bank. Take a tour of the visitors’ center and extensive grounds, which include meadows, mature forests, and marshlands, where lucky visitors may spot a resident hawk. There will also be presentations by the Squam Lakes staff at the Amphitheater, with opportunities to see live birds of prey up close!
On the Picnic Lawn, IBEX Puppetry will present ‘Celebration of Flight’ at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. IBEX Puppetry is run by Heather Henson, the daughter of puppeteer Jim Henson of Muppet fame, and the show promises to be top-notch! Birch Lodge and Boathouse Lodge Officially Opening!
Posted on June 15th, 2012 1 commentAfter eight months of construction and a lot of anticipation, the new Lodges at the Inns & Spa at Mill Falls will be opening their doors this weekend to welcome their very first guests, and will be celebrated at the official grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony this coming Tuesday, June 19th.
The Birch Lodge and the Boathouse Lodge at Church Landing comprise the latest expansion at the Inns & Spa at Mill Falls, adding 13 deluxe lake-view rooms and suites in two new buildings connected to Church Landing by a covered cedar walkway. Construction began last September and continued non-stop right up to this week, when staff at the Inns pitched in to help clean up, assemble furniture, and get everything in place for guests.
