Now that flowers are blooming, the air is warm, and folks are planting their gardens, it seems that spring has finally settled in! In honor of the season, the New Hampshire Farm Museum will be holding a Spring Farm Day celebration, where visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty and simplicity of life on the farm and celebrate spring the old-fashioned way!
This Saturday, May 18th, from 10am – 4pm, the museum will open its garden gates for its annual Spring Farm Day Market, Plant Sale & Farm Day Activities. The Spring Market, which is open to the public free of charge from 10am – 2pm, will feature homemade crafts, plants, baked goods, and an organic seedling sale. Spring Farm Day events include historic farmhouse tours, horse-drawn wagon rides, gardening activities, farm tours, wool spinning, and demonstrations of traditional crafts. Kids can make a paper pot and plant a seed to take home, as well as help plant the museum’s Children’s Garden. Curious folks of all ages can learn about making spring tonics in the morning, and butter making in the afternoon. Everyone can dance around the Maypole! Read the rest of this entry »

Remember the long days, warm sun, and bountiful farmers’ markets and produce stands of summer? Now that we are deep into winter, those days seem a long way off. Leaves are budding and flowers are blooming all around NH, and the time for planting summer vegetables is upon us! Many local farms and farm stands are now opening to the public and offering early spring produce along with special events that will get everyone in the spirit for this year’s growing season and abundant harvests.
Saturday, April 28th is Opening Day at Beans & Greens Farmstand in Gilford, NH. Visitors will enjoy the farm’s focus on the early season gardening, and Beans & Greens will be offering a full selection of annuals, perennials, vegetable plants, and hanging baskets displayed in several large greenhouses. As the weather warms and the danger of frost passes, a full selection of vegetables, fruits, flowers, and herbs will soon be growing in the picturesque meadows surrounding the Farmstand. Next weekend, on Saturday, May 5th, the farm will present an introductory workshop on its Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Attendees will learn about how the program works and, if interested, can sign up to participate. Many other fun events coming up at Beans & Greens are listed on the farm’s website here.
