  • The “Biggest Little Candy Store in the Lakes Region” is Growing!

Posted on April 2nd, 2010 admin No comments

homemade chocolatesLee’s Candy Kitchen in the Mill Falls Marketplace is about to get a little bigger!  The shop, which is the oldest store in the Marketplace, has recently taken over the space next door and is doubling their floor space.  The small space the store has occupied since 1984 had become a little too crowded, and was jam-packed with goodies, as well as customers lined up to buy them.

Owners Gerry and Kathy Fagan say that one of the goals is to create a little more space, re-expose the beautiful brick walls of the old mill building, and bring back the old-time charm of a traditional candy shop.  They are also “very excited” about the store’s new centerpiece, a 40-foot U-shaped “Candy Corral,” which will feature over 200 gummy treats, sours, and other candy novelties in old-fashioned glass apothecary jars.  The “Candy Corral” will be the largest candy counter in the Lakes region and will be a fun attraction for families to enjoy while visiting Meredith Village.

Lee’s Candy Kitchen will continue to carry fine chocolates and homemade fudge, and prides itself on carrying high-quality products that are “not made in China.”  The store features New England made gourmet food products, as well as a beautiful line of YummyEarth organic treats.

The target date for the completion of remodeling is May 1st, but the shop will continue to be open for most of the renovation period, so that customers can get their sweet fix!  Stop by and check out the homemade Easter bunnies, candy eggs, and chocolate-covered peeps!  Happy Spring!

  • The Guest House Beading Studio Provides Space for Creativity at Mill Falls Marketplace

Posted on February 18th, 2010 admin 1 comment

P1000722The new store at the Marketplace is not just an ordinary shop.  Even the name conjures up a warm and inviting place that makes you feel at home.  Opened four years ago in Meredith Village, The Guest House of Meredith recently moved to the Mill Falls Marketplace.  It is a creative studio, where people can come to learn, share, and socialize while designing and creating everything from jewelry and accessories, to one-of-a-kind art pieces, and even lampshades.  The possibilities are endless!

    J. Lynn, the artist and published jewelry designer behind the idea for the studio, opened The Guest House after retiring from social work, where she specialized in play and art therapy.  She says the mission of the studio is to help inspire creativity.  Guests are free to browse the beautiful designs of J. Lynn, or create a new piece “that will amaze your friends.”  The friendly and professional staff can also design and create a stunning “made-for-you” piece for any occasion.

The Guest House carries a wide range of stones, artist beads, crystals, and jewelry-making components.  They also have fibers, such as silk and wool, so guests can craft scarves, hats, and purses, and add beads for accent.  Clays and resins are available as well, for sculpture, belt buckles, and other art forms.P1000727

Guests can work on their pieces right in the store.  The studio offers table space for beading, stitching, and design assistance.  The studio is also available for gatherings, such as bridal parties and girls’ night out.  Snacks and spirits are welcome here!  To really get inspired, be sure to check the class schedule and sign up for some of the classes and workshops at The Guest House!

    J. Lynn is proud to be promoting a project she started called “Beads for the Brave.”  This campaign donates beading supplies to women serving in the military overseas, where they use this art for physical as well as emotional healing.  She encourages folks to bring any beading or craft items into the store to be shipped to our brave fellow artists.

In addition to beading and art supplies, classes, and studio space, The Guest House provides jewelry repair services.  From simple repairs to complete restringing and redesign, the talented staff can bring any piece back to life.

The next time you’re in Meredith, take a stroll through the Mill Falls Marketplace and stop in at The Guest House.  You just may find something to spark your creativity!

  • Celebration of the Marketplace’s 25th Anniversary, Big Success!

Posted on August 23rd, 2009 admin No comments

On Friday, August 14, I had the good fortune of attending The Inns & Spa at Mill Falls celebration of the 25th marketplace25-001anniversary of its Marketplace.   It turned out to have everything they promised:  live music, face painting, balloon artist, free massages, and lots of great food provided by The Common Man, Giuseppe’s Pizzeria & Ristorante, and Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream.  For everyone’s enjoyment, there were also horse and buggy rides touring the quaint little town of Meredith, provided by the folks at Heritage Farm in Sanbornton.

We were blessed with nearly perfect weather; it was sunny and warm, with a gentle breeze to keep us cool when we weren’t in the shade.  The Buskers played for three hours to large crowds of folks taking part in the celebration or just passing through.  From what I could see, everyone had a very nice time.  I know I did!
