Come to the Meredith Area’s 20th Annual Community Yard Sale This Weekend!

yard sale(4)For treasure seekers of all kinds, the Lakes Region will be the place to be tomorrow. The communities of Meredith Village and Center Harbor are coming together to hold their Annual Community Yard Sale, and antique enthusiasts, collectors, and bargain hunters from all over New England will be buzzing around the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee.

Sponsored by the Meredith Area Chamber of Commerce, the 20th Annual Community Yard Sale will take place on Saturday, May 16th from 9 am – 3 pm at over sixty locations in Meredith and Center Harbor. According to Susan Cerutti, Executive Director of the Chamber, the event has become a fun tradition for folks in the Lakes Region of NH.

“The Community Yard Sale began 20 years ago,” says Susan. “It was scheduled to be the weekend before Memorial Day, as that had typically been a quiet weekend, and we were looking to create an event that would bring people to town. Now with so many antique shops on Main Street, the event dovetails perfectly with the shops in town.”

The idea seems to have worked. Locals and out-of-towners alike look forward to the day they can cruise around town searching for treasures and visiting with neighbors.

“People seem to love yard sales,” says Susan. “Those who attend fall into a couple of groups: antique dealers looking for bargains at the individual sales (and of course they also stop in at the antique shops), and residents who make a day of yard sale-ing—spending the day with friends and looking to see what is out there each year . . . we also have a loyal following of out-of-town people, too.”

In addition to the many garage and yard sales at individual homes, several local businesses and organizations will also participate in the big sale. As in the past, the Meredith Altrusa Club will hold a sale on the lawn of the Chamber building. The Winnipesaukee Playhouse is jumping in this year, and the Meredith Kiwanis Club and the Wicwas Lake Grange will also participate. So Little Thyme on Main Street, as well as The Ballard House Inn, are also holding their own yard sales. The Trinity Episcopal Church in Meredith, the Congregational Church in Center Harbor, and the Calvary Bible Church will all host group sales. And that’s just for starts!

The Community Yard Sale will be held rain or shine, and, beginning at 8 am on Saturday, maps identifying the locations of the various sales will be available at the Chamber of Commerce Information Center located at 272 Daniel Webster Highway. Signs will be posted at the individual locations as well. For more information, please visit the Meredith Area Chamber of Commerce at www.meredithareachamber.com or call 603-279-6121.
