Moulton Farm Open House 2011

Lakes Region Events to Celebrate Spring this Weekend

After a long winter, spring is finally starting to show its true colors! Flowers are blooming, trees are unfurling their leaves, and people are out in their gardens and on the trails enjoying the mild weather. The spring season in New England is a short one, and many folks are ready to spend time playing in the dirt or simply soaking up nature. Here in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, there are some great events happening this weekend that celebrate this much-loved season and help us enjoy everything it has to offer.

Open House at Moulton Farm – Saturday, April 30, 10am – 2pm – To mark the start of gardening season and local food, Moulton Farm in Meredith, NH is hosting an open house on Saturday, April 30th. This year’s free event features fabulous food as well as great learning opportunities. Sample delicious dishes and baked goods prepared by the farm’s talented kitchen and bakery staff, and try some of the food items from the northern New England small businesses that partner with Moulton Farm.

For those interested in farming or gardening, there are some excellent seminars planned. At 10am, Kyle and Wes will lead a workshop called “Seedlings to Harvest…and Everything in Between,” which is part of the free “Good Gardening Workshop” series. This hands-on learning experience covers transplanting, plant spacing, trellising, mulching, and more by taking participants into the farm’s fields. If you are attending this workshop, please wear mud-friendly clothing and sturdy footwear.

All of the farm’s greenhouses will also be open, and the staff will be available to answer questions about the many flowers and vegetable plants we grow for gardens and window boxes. Kelly McAdam from the University of New Hampshire’s Cooperative Extension will be at the farm to answer gardening related questions. For the children, there will be a free planting activity and farm animals to visit.

In addition, with the first 50 purchases of the day, the farm will be giving away $5 in “bonus bucks” that can be used towards a purchase during a future visit. For more information about Moulton Farm, please visit www.moultonfarm.com or call 603-279-3915.

Spring Bulb Festival at Tarbin Gardens – Sunday, May 1, 10am – 6pm – Tarbin Gardens in Franklin, NH will be hosting a self-guided tour that features colorful spring bulbs. All plants are labeled, and the staff will provide a map of the gardens and will also be available to answer any questions. Guests are welcome to stay for the day and enjoy the extensive, peaceful gardens. Visitors are also encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to eat in the Rose Garden Patio.
